Race and Your Community

Race and Your Community ETH/125 Cultural Diversity Moving back to Prince William County after five years of being away has been enlightening. Not only if has the sphere of influence prominent beyond my belief, notwithstanding the face of Prince William County has changed as well. In 2000, the population of the county was 280,813. As of March 2010, the estimated population has big(a) to 396,519 people (Prince William County Government, 2010). That is an increase of almost 116,000 in 10 years. When face at my community breakdown, I discovered that 60.3% of the population is Caucasian, 19.3% was African American, 19.1% Hispanic, 7% Asian, .4% American Indian, another 8.9% was other draws, and 4.1% was two or more races (Prince William County Government, 2010). Caucasians are still the dominant race in Prince William County, besides their residency has significantly dropped. Since 1990, the Caucasian residents dropped 20%. Hispanics put one across had the greatest increase of any resident in Prince William County; increase 14.6% since 1990. It was surprising to see that African Americans residents have only grown 7.7% during that same period. Even though the African American race make up almost 20% of the population in Prince William County, their growth has not been as significant as Hispanics.

Today that same shopping center did not have as many clients as it once did, but the area just like the neighborhood that surrounds it...
