TRAUMATIC MEMORIES
The sirens scream in the background. Nationwide, the emergency board are unable to triage the patients as the massive case freightage strains the overcrowded hallways. An epidemic of this magnitude has never been seen in the history of modern-day science. Is it biological warfare? Is it a nuclear meltdown? Doctors speedily realize that the painful cries coming from these adult men and women are strangely the voices of children; children reliving the traumatic subjects they have suppressed for decades. The scrimmage is further complicated by the disagreement within the health check community as to a correct clinical diagnosis. Although this scenario is not the storyline for the latest episode of CSI, it indeed could be a possible script.
Unfortunately, for the real victims of childhood trauma, it is an autobiography. Eve tried to control the after school program director, Funny things are misfortune on the bus. Bruised thighs, rectal bleeding, and painful urination were all signs that somehow went neglected for three agonizing years as the nightmare continued and the haunting memories mounted.
What is a traumatic memory? Can an one-on-one experience trauma, totally forget the experience, only to have the event recalled at a later time?
