WONDERFUL DEVELOPMENT
Philip Harding is an engineer at a humiliated family business called Wonder Products, Inc.(WPI). The majority of WPIs play involves designing and producing parts for larger products that are sold by other companies. WPI is under contract to design and produce a complex component for General Farms (GF) mature harvesting equipment.
Despite a hen-peck, though small, problem that does not find a perfect solution, WPI designs the part to GFs satisfaction. The terms is set at $200 for each component. GF orders 1,000 components, with the understanding that because things keep up gone so well, they will be talking to WPI and Philip nigh other contracts.
WPI begins production and transfers a sample of the order to GF on time. GF at this point is very happy with the component and deficiencys WPI to ship the remainder of the order as soon as feasible. As Philip is working on the component, he thinks of an apparent solution to the nagging problem that bothered him through design. It would be a small change in the production process while incur four dollars more per part. The improvement in the part would be significant, but it would not be considered revolutionary in its design.
Because he is in a rush to complete the order, Philip does not subscribe much time to work on anything other than the order. He wonders if he should investigate this saucy idea immediately or wait until he has more time to test it. He decides to work over the weekend and check out his new idea.
Philip confirms the fact that the new design solves the problem. But he has gotten jolly behind in the order. He brings the development to the attention of others at WPI.
